Lectures
National medical and scientific institutions as well as universities, besides medical colleges particularly in Andhra Pradesh, have instituted lectures in memory of Dr Yellapragada SubbaRow since the 1950s, many of them endowed by Cyanamid India. One of the earliest is Indian Academy of Medical Sciences' 'SubbaRow Memorial Lectures', the first of which was delivered by Dr C M Fletcher on 'Pathogenesis of Diffuse Airway Obstruction' at New Delhi's Vigyan Bhavan on February 20, 1963.
The Centenary Celebrations in 1995 provided opportunity for establishment of new memorial lectures. Of these, 'Dr Yellapragada SubbaRow Memorial Lectures' at the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) was endowed by the National Committee for Centenary Celebrations and the first of the triennial lectures was delivered by Prof. N.R. Moudgal in 1996. Click here for other lectures in the INSA series.
The University of Hyderabad in 1995 constituted an annual 'Dr Yellapragada SubbaRow Memorial Lecture' at the initiative of Professor Kalluri Subba Rao. Dr S Sriramachari, P N Tandon, M S Valiathan, N K Ganguly, T Ramasarma, M Gourie Devi, K Anji Reddi and G Padmanabhan are among the eminent medical/biological scientists who have on Dr SubbaRow's death anniversary addressed the University audience on topics of their choice.
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University of New Delhi established in 2002 an annual 'Dr SubbaRow Memorial Lecture' at the initiative of Dr K Kannan, then Dean of the University's School of Biotechnology, to salute 'one of the most eminent minds of the 20th Century' and to enthuse young scientists to work in depth in areas of biomedical marvels to which answers are yet to be found. Following lectures have so far been delivered on Dr SubbaRow's birth anniversary:
